MEXICO, Mexico City, bust 8 reales, Charles III, 1776/5 FM, very rare, NGC AU details / rev stained. Yonaka-M8.76a; Cal-unl; KM-unl (106.2 for type). Very rare 1776/5 overdate seen on this piece with top of 5 just visible above 6, cataloged by Yonaka as "one example observed," an AU details / cleaned piece sold by Stack's Bowers in October 2014 that shares additional die diagnostics with this newly discovered example. Though the overdate is not currently noted on the NGC label, it is clear. Lustrous piece with some wear on the bust, vibrant red toning along the rims, only a small patch of surface staining on the bottom of the reverse.
